Children aged 3+ learn all the basic movements required for later dance training through a structured story-based session. Young children learn best through play and our pre-school classes are designed to feel like exactly that. For school age children we offer classes in the Royal Ballet School Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme and the Royal Academy of Dance Graded syllabus both of which take students all the way through from Reception to when they leave us for dance college or university.
The Royal Ballet School Affiliate Training and Assessment Programme (ATAP) adopts a holistic approach to Ballet training. The programme covers classical ballet vocabulary including Pointe work at the higher levels. Students also take part in Repertoire study helping them develop a broader appreciation for their art form as well as body conditioning and creative practice and choreography. All students have the opportunity to take assessments which are moderated by the Royal Ballet School when they are ready. With no set syllabus these classes are centred around the students learning and tailored to the individual needs of each student.
The Royal Academy of Dance examinations syllabus from Pre Primary through to Grade 8 and Intermediate Foundation to Advanced focuses on preparing a set syllabus for examination. Exams are offered when teachers feel students are ready and are entirely optional at all levels. Grades 1-8 include Character work based on National Dance as you would see in classical ballets such as Swan Lake or the Nutcracker. The Vocational levels also introduce Pointe work for students attending a minimum of 2 classical ballet classes per week.ctured story-based session.
